How to travel to Belgium by air?

There are three main airports in Belgium:

Brussels Airport (BRU):

Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL):

Ostend-Bruges International Airport (OST):

  • Located in Ostend.
  • Used for regional flights.
  • Although some destinations in Europe have a direct flight to this airport, the flight availability in November will be very limited.

If you're traveling to Belgium from Europe, there are numerous airlines from most European cities that fly directly to Brussels Airport (BRU) or Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL).

If you're traveling to Belgium from outside of Europe, there might be a direct flight to Brussels, depending on where you are from.

How to travel to Belgium by train?

If you're traveling from a neighboring country (The Netherlands, Germany, France, Luxembourg), your best option might be to book a train to Brussels. From Paris or Amsterdam, the journey will take a little over an hour.

If you're in London, you can take the Eurostar which takes 2 hours and 20 minutes. Because the UK is outside the EU, border crossings between Belgium and the UK are subject to strict custom controls.

 

How to travel to Belgium by bus?

How to travel to Bruges by train?

Whether you arrive at Brussels Airport (BRU), Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL), or Ostend-Bruges International Airport (OST), you will have to take the train (+ bus) to get to Bruges.

From Brussels Airport (BRU):

  • Go to the Brussels Airport train station (located at the lowest level of the airport).
  • You can either take a direct train to Bruges (e.g. IC - Knokke) or a train with a transfer (e.g. via Brussels or Ghent).
  • Stop at Bruges station.
  • This train journey takes about 1.5 hours.

From Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL):

  • Take the bus to Luttre train station.
  • Take a train to Brux.-Midi/Brus.-Zuid.
  • Take one of the following trains: IC - Blankenberge, IC - Ostende / Oostende or IC - Knokke.
  • Stop at Bruges station.
  • This bus+train journey takes about 2 hours.

From Ostend-Bruges International Airport (OST):

  • Take the bus to Ostend train station.
  • Take one of the following trains: IC - Courtrai / Kortrijk, IC - Brussels Airport-Zaventem or IC - Anvers-Central / Antwerpen-Centraal
  • Stop at Bruges station.
  • This bus+train journey takes about 40 minutes.

How to get to the Concertgebouw from Bruges station?

By walking:

  • The Concertgebouw is a 10-minute walk from the station.
  • Cross the station square and the motorway, and follow the walking path through the Albert Park.

By bus:

  • Walk from Bruges station to the station square.
  • Take one of the following bus lines: 2, 3, 6. Buses are every 5 minutes.
  • The bus journey only takes about 5 minutes.
  • Leave at the bus stop Brugge 't Zand.

By car:

  • Set your GPS to this address: 't Zand 34,  8000 Brugge (Google Maps).
  • Parking options
    • Parking ‘Centrum-Zand’ is located directly beneath the Concertgebouw. Motorists who enter the car park after 18.00 and leave it before 05.00 are charged a special evening rate of maximum € 3 (subject to change by Interparking).
    • Parking ‘Centrum- Station’ (10 minutes walk from the Concertgebouw). Rates there are a maximum of € 1.10 an hour and € 5.50 a day (subject to change by Interparking). Your parking ticket entitles you to free bus transport to and from the centre (stop right next to the Concertgebouw).
